Push Ups

Purpose – This exercise really focusses on the shoulder stabilizing muscles.

Criteria – Maintain stillness in feet. Curved spine as head comes down. Weight over front end. Elbow and shoulder flexed (bent)

Placement of reward – Reward dogs low, slightly ahead of their front feet close to the ground for the dip part.

Training Tips - Use two different props for front and rear. Lure them down and reward. Pay attention to whether they pop in their wrists. If they do then don’t take them as low for now. Make sure the spine has a nice curve all the way through and play around with reward placement for this. Have them come up to stillness in a stand in between.

Increasing difficulty – Increase height under the rear end to load the front end more. Unstable surfaces once they get really good.
