Weave Exercise
Purpose – Working on both the adductors and abductors (front and rear) and dogs don’t tend to use these muscles in regular forward motion.
Criteria – dog steps over the pole with the front leg closest to the pole. Dog staying tight around the cone.
Placement of reward – Reward on the ground close to the pole after the dog has done one or multiple wraps.
Training tips – To train this you can lure the dog around the cone initially. I try to fade the lure quickly as the dog's can't focus on what they are stepping over when they are looking at food.
Increasing difficulty – more reps and making the cones closer together. Not too close though as there is a point where the dog needs to be able to fit their body in there. The smallest I would be likely to go would be the space of weave poles which is 60 cm.
